SUNY Broome Community College is a comprehensive community college located in the scenic Southern Tier of New York. The College has over 7,700 students annually, and services over 6,100 students per semester in Liberal Arts, Business & Professional Studies, Health Sciences, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs. An additional 1,600 students are served through the College's workforce and non-credit programs.

Job Description:

The full-time, temporary Grant-Funded, Senior Staff Assistant (STEM Career Navigator) position will work with students to help participants navigate through the various offerings and visualize how programs stack together to meet their individualized college career goals. This person will work with community partners and workforce investment boards to understand the social and job placement supports available in each community and to refer students appropriately.

The STEM Career Navigator will provide the following services, to be inclusive of: career readiness, onboarding assistance, intake completion, support faculty and advisors in academic counseling. This person will be a dedicated generalist and key point of contact to the STEM student population to support career guidance where students can turn to for information, support, and guidance, and will support administrative, academic advising, technical support, and/or referral to other services

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support students in selecting the appropriate program for their college and career goals, facilitate career inventory completions, and inform students about various non-credit to credit pathways, as well as opportunities to utilize credit for prior learning toward credential completion; provide outreach to students who do not pass licensing/certificate examinations to facilitate resource connection to support exam success.
  • Provide additional support to STEM advisor(s) for participants to assist with navigating enrollment, course selection, and registration processes for credit and non-credit courses/programs, and applying credit for prior learning experiences towards credential completion.
  • Provide and refer to on-campus and off-campus community supports to foster student retention and collaborate with community partners for wrap around services.
  • Assist with outreach, marketing, and recruitment efforts as requested.
  • Navigate faculty, dean and students with the understanding and administrative process of articulation agreements that advance Credit for Prior Learning.
  • Track student information and progress along non-credit and credit pathways.
  • Complete data reports as requested.

Requirements:

A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required.

Additional training and education in the applicable administrative field is desirable.

Two (2) to three (3) years of experience working in an educational institution or in a related administrative function desired.

One (1) year of supervisory experience is required.

Additional Information:

The candidate may need to be available periodically for an evening event or even a weekend.

The annual salary for this position is $47,492.

Offers of employment will be conditional based upon the results of a satisfactory, required pre-employment Standard Background Check.
