Assistant Director for Finance and Sponsor Relations

The MIT Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE) seeks an assistant director for finance and sponsor relations to serve as a key member of its leadership team, assuming primary responsibility for supervising the sponsored research administration and financial services functions.

Will play a leadership role in facilitating the formation of major research initiatives and programs, structure long-term organizational strategies and develop internal policies and business methods, and drive continuous improvements in the quality and effectiveness of administrative services. The position involves working closely with the laboratory director and assistant director for administration and human resources in planning for new faculty and principal investigators, and with the assistant director for IT services in developing technology strategies for administrative computing. Will supervise the financial services staff.

Originally derived from the famed Rad Lab, RLE - has been the proud home of many of MITs most esteemed researchers and fundamental discoveries. RLE is MITs premier interdisciplinary research lab and its fastest growing research organization on campus (600 researchers and close to $60M in research expenditures).

Requirements: a bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline; ten years of financial management experience in an academic/research environment with federal and corporate sponsors; significant computer and quantitative expertise and complete facility with modern financial information systems; strong leadership, project management, and customer service skills; and superior written and oral communication skills, including a successful history of supervising/mentoring individuals and teams. Proven success initiating new business methods and developing core organizational strategies required, as is a demonstrated record of assuming greater responsibilities over time.
