Elon University is currently accepting applications for a Director of Alumni Engagement.  The Director of Alumni Engagement reports to the Assistant Vice President and serves on the Vice President for University Advancement’s Leadership Team. The Director will lead a talented team of eight professionals and help implement a new staffing structure that has doubled the size of the staff in the past two years. As outlined in The Elon Commitment, the university’s strategic plan, the Director will engage alumni of all ages and stages while building a vibrant alumni network that benefits both students and alumni, fosters a culture of philanthropy and supports efforts to double the alumni giving participation by 2020. The Director will provide day-to-day leadership and oversight to a growing program that serves an alumni population of 30,000, 60% of whom are under the age of 40. Working in collaboration with other advancement, athletic, academic, admissions, alumni and student leaders, the Director will coordinate a comprehensive plan that stimulates the engagement of older alumni, with the need to explore new strategies, practices and tools to fully leverage a large young alumni community.  Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred with a minimum eight years total alumni engagement, donor relations and/or development related experience, with gift solicitation experience.  Higher Education experience is ideal.  The successful candidate will have a minimum of four years supervisory/management experience, knowledge of all aspects of the supervisory role and be a savvy judge of talent with skills to coach and effectively mentor supervisors and staff.  The Director handles broad-based complex information across departments with University-wide impact and externally with Alumni. He/she must be comfortable presenting to diverse audiences and internal and external constituencies. A proven track record of negotiating with, motivating, and persuading others with both written and verbal communications is preferred.  Position is open until filled.
