WittKieffer is proud to partner with Wake Forest University and invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for its next Vice Provost for Research, Scholarly Inquiry, and Creative Activity (VPRSICA).

Wake Forest seeks an innovative, collaborative, and experienced leader to work with Provost Michele Gillespie, the University's academic leadership team, the Deans' Council, the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, the leadership of Wake Forest University's Centers and Institutes, the Research Advisory Council, faculty, and other constituents in support of its research, scholarly and creative enterprises, and the institution's strategic framework: Framing Our Future. Wake Forest is one of the highest ranking R2 institutions on the HERD Survey and operates on a teacher-scholar model that emphasizes the quality of research over quantity.

The next VPRSICA will provide strategic leadership and vision as Wake Forest enters an exciting new phase of continued growth of its research enterprise. The VPRSICA will understand the transformative role that applied research, translational research, creative inquiry, and innovation can play in the lives of Wake Forest students and the broader region, building on the strong, current research agenda while also capitalizing on and growing a climate of innovation to explore nascent research areas of excellence, opening up the University intellectually and inspiring the faculty and students to engage in creating a productive teaching-researching environment.

The next VPRSICA will lead Wake Forest in achieving the goals of its research and economic development agenda including promoting interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary research; integrating research and education at both the graduate and undergraduate levels; ensuring the integrity of research processes and policies; stewarding the special physical and computational infrastructure necessary for research leadership; establishing collaborative research partnerships between the University and key constituents at the local, regional, national, and international levels; staying abreast of federal and state policymaking regarding research and economic development; and engaging a broad range of individuals in research, scholarly inquiry, or creative activity that strengthens the University's research enterprise.

This will require the next VPRSICA to engage in the optimization of the current research operation; prepare for growth and build capacity; capitalize on the strength of the current staff; and maintain strong internal and external focus, serving as an ambassador, collaborator, and spokesperson with key partners, including the Medical School, funding agencies, private foundations, government officials, corporations, and other organizations. The VPRSICA must wholeheartedly embrace Wake Forest's strategic priorities and ensure the research enterprise priorities are in close alignment.

The incoming VPRSICA will be a forward-thinking, engaging, and transparent leader, ready to support a campus community eager to enhance the University's research enterprise in ways that will significantly bolster Wake Forest's future. The VPRSICA will be a highly accomplished individual with a track record of successful, transparent, and collaborative leadership as a teacher-scholar and administrator and possess the interpersonal, managerial, and communication skills necessary to enhance and operate an effective research and entrepreneurial enterprise in a teacher-scholar environment. The next VPRSICA will work productively and in partnership with internal and external colleagues and constituents. The VPRSICA will have knowledge of and a deep commitment to research compliance and integrity and the practical experience to help translate research toward the University's motto of Pro Humanitate, improving the greater societal good. The ideal candidate will demonstrate success as a distinguished teacher-scholar with a record of considerable competitive extramural funding; will be qualified to hold an appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure; and will have at least five years of progressive responsibility in research administration.

All applications, nominations and inquiries are invited. Applications should include, as separate documents, a CV or resume and a letter of interest addressing the themes in the leadership profile found at www.wittkieffer.com. Application materials should be submitted through WittKieffer's candidate portal. For fullest consideration, application materials should be received by April 5, 2024.

Confidential nominations and inquiries can be directed to the institution's consultants, Jessica Herrington and Randi Miller, at WakeForestVPRSICA@wittkieffer.com.
