Job Description
Basic Function: BASIC FUNCTION:
The ideal candidate will share RCC's and the department of counseling's commitment to educating its racially/ethnically and socioeconomically diverse student population. We currently enroll 28,939 students, the majority of whom are from racially minoritized populations. Riverside City College has been designated a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community.

The successful candidate will be a well-rounded faculty member responsible for instruction and providing counseling services within a Guided Pathways framework including all aspects of Counseling. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to counsel and advise students with respect to career, academic and vocational goals. May teach classes in guidance, learning strategies, and education. May include evening assignments, recruitment, class preparation and instruction, high school liaison, student activities and curriculum development. Duties may include Veterans, Articulation, Career & Transfer, Puente, Basic Skills, and/or Athletics. May include presentation of Student Success workshops, operating in an online counseling environment, and facilitation of student success programs.
Education: EDUCATION:
Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling; OR the Equivalent. (All degrees and units used to satisfy minimum qualifications shall be from accredited institutions).
Experience: EXPERIENCE:
Recent experience working with African American, Latinx/Hispanic, Native American and other racially/ ethnically, socioeconomically minoritized students in the classroom, and an understanding of how historical patterns have shaped these groups' experiences and representation within higher education, especially how real or perceived exclusion can shape patterns of participation and outcomes. Demonstration of a willingness to examine and re-mediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support various groups of marginalized students. Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the classroom. Experience and expertise in culturally responsive teaching in communication. Demonstrated ability to address equity gaps with communication courses and classrooms. Demonstrated knowledge of the implications of the Hispanic-Serving designation for institutional, departmental and instructional practices.

A minimum of the equivalent of one year full time counseling experience at the collegiate level as well as the equivalent of one year of teaching experience, also at the collegiate level, are required. Knowledge and experience in teaching guidance courses is required. Experience with online counseling and counseling with special populations is desirable. Experience within a multicultural work environment is also desirable.

The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about culturally-responsive pedagogical techniques and practices for engaging our diverse student population in addition to having the ability to teach well; create and develop curriculum; work well with others (students, faculty, staff, and administrators); and fulfill the duties of a full-time faculty member in a shared governance environment.

Duties and Responsibilities: DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assignments are based upon the assumption of workload of forty hours weekly, which includes educational and career counseling to a diverse community college student population; providing support services to students at risk; development of student educational plans, assisting students with the transfer process; recruitment and outreach activities; instruction and class preparation; committee work; program and curriculum development, and other duties per the bargaining unit agreement.
2. The instructional assignment will include lecture and/or laboratory classes in the discipline.
3. Other responsibilities may include developing career seminars and classes; transfer and study skills workshops; evaluating and recommending appropriate career instruments, including computer software; collaborative activities within department and other disciplines; developing a comprehensive career decision-making process for use with undecided students.
4. All faculty members are expected to maintain standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position.
5. Institutional service activities are expected of all faculty members.
6. Participation in discipline/department decision making processes and work regarding curriculum, program development, scheduling and other matters are also expected of all Counseling faculty.
7. Counseling is a profession grounded in service with teamwork at the core. The successful candidate will uphold high standards of professionalism and teamwork.

Conditions of Employment: CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. Ten-month, tenure-track position.
2. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation, and full-time teaching or equivalent experience with a range from Column C, Step 1 to Column H, Step 6 of the current Faculty Salary Schedule.
3. Medical and dental benefits are provided for the employee and legal dependents.
4. A $50,000 life insurance policy is provided for the employee.
5. Orientation to college is required as is adherence to Improvement of Instruction policy.
6. Maintain broad knowledge of academic or occupational area and design pedagogy related to learning outcomes.
7. Responsible for all other conditions of employment required of full-time faculty members such as a willingness to be involved in District promotional activities, active participation in college committee work, student activities and other support services, appropriate professional activities, and other duties per the bargaining unit agreement.
