Lewis University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry beginning August 2014. A Ph.D. in chemistry is required and a specialization in Inorganic chemistry and experience teaching and conducting research with undergraduates is highly desired. The successful candidate must be committed to excellence in teaching and to contributing to the growth of the chemistry department and all of its programs. Responsibilities include teaching general chemistry lecture and lab courses (major and non-major) as well as upper division lecture and lab courses in Advanced Inorganic Chemistry. The candidate is also expected to establish a research program suitable for involving undergraduates. Lewis University, located 35 miles from downtown Chicago and near two national laboratories, is a Catholic and Lasallian university.
· Teaching is a primary focus at Lewis University. The minimum teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester.
· The candidate will advise chemistry and biochemistry majors and may have the opportunity to be faculty advisor for the student affiliate chapter of the American Chemical Society.
· The candidate is expected to establish an undergraduate research program. Current areas of work in the Chemistry at Lewis include, nanomaterials, biomaterials, alternative energy applications, forensic chemistry, and wastewater treatment; however, candidates with other areas of interest will be considered.
· The candidate is expected to engage in service to the Department, College, and University.
