The anticipated salary range for this position is $4,158 - $5,250 per month.

The final salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.

About the Department/Position:

Under the direction of the Athletics Director or designer, the Athletic Trainer II provides injury prevention and care of the student-athletes representing the University on all intercollegiate athletics teams. Typically they are more involved in program coordination and assist in program development, especially in the absence of the Head Athletic Trainer. Incumbents often provide training and direction to less experienced Athletic Trainers (AT I). This 12-month appointment includes pre-game and pre-practice preventative taping and rehabilitation, supervision of athletic training students/interns, attendance at home and away intercollegiate contests as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer and/or Athletics Director or designee, practices, post-practices, post-game therapy, and development and implementation and approval of weight training programs and off-season conditioning programs. Duties include evening, weekend, holidays and summer work, maintenance of insurance costs and claims; maintenance of individual student-athlete medical insurance records; management of Athletics Training Room operations. The Athletic Trainer II assists with oversight of care and maintenance of therapeutic and operational equipment used in the treatment and rehabilitation of injury; inspection and recommendations of safety precautions of all athletics facilities and equipment. The Athletic Trainer II will participate in on and off campus community service projects; assists with preparation and maintenance of the Training Room Policy and Procedure Manual; assists with maintenance of the medical files; provides medical counseling and referrals for student-athletes; provides direction to graduate assistants; Assists with preseason meetings with all teams; verifies the completion of student-athlete physical exams; supervises and administers stretching and massage therapy; help oversee internal drug testing policies and procedures. The Athletic Trainer II exercises direct and professional verbal and written communications skills with student-athletes, coaches, administrators, doctors, parents, insurance companies and others as needed.

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Injury Prevention and Care of Student-Athletes.
  • Oversees training room activities and is responsible for inventory control, operation of all equipment, coordination of athletic physical exams and general upkeep of facility, communication with Athletics Director or designee, and coaches relative to injury updates, pre-season conditioning programs and drug/alcohol/tobacco education programs for student-athletes.
  • Development, implementation and approval of conditioning and strength training program, including summer supervision of weight room and student-athlete summer conditioning and strength programs.
  • Responsible for recommending to the Athletics Director or designee the ordering of supply and equipment, as needed, and assisting with maintenance and repair needs of equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Required Education: Equivalent to bachelor's degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology or related field of study or combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
  • Required Experience: Equivalent to two (2) years of experience as a certified Athletic Trainer in a high school or college environment.
  • Valid Driver License, CPR certification, BOC, and National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA) certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of athletic training including conditioning, injury prevention, injury assessment and rehabilitation
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) standards for handling blood borne pathogens; maintaining medical records, including Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards; and following insurance procedures.
  • Ability to demonstrate full-to-advanced proficiency in the skills and abilities of the Athletic Trainer I
  • Skills in: Preventative treatment and rehabilitation of intercollegiate athletic-related injuries - Excellent administrative, organizational, and communication skills- utilization of a personal computer.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals and groups, both on- and of-campus, to include health care providers, doctors, and other medical personnel, parents, faculty, staff and students - Plan, organize, and schedule activities- Operate technical equipment related to athletic training- Maintain records- Adjust and perform simple maintenance of technical equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Preferred Education: master's degree in athletic training or in a related field.
  • Preferred Experience: Current CPR and first AID certification and two (2) years of athletic training experience in an intercollegiate setting
  • Three years of athletics training experience.
  • Knowledge of a full range of therapeutic modalities and their practical use and physiological basis; other therapeutic preventions and treatments such as taping, bracing, and massage; effective use of rehabilitation and exercise equipment; rules, regulations, and guidelines established by the campuses' governing national collegiate athletic associations (e.g., National Collegiate Athletics Association or National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) pertaining to student athletes, their training, sports medicine care, and health and safety;
