Position Information

The purpose of this recruitment is to produce a pool of qualified applicants to call upon for temporary appointments. Temporary appointments may be canceled or extended at any time. Successful candidates may be appointed from a few days up to one year depending on the assignment. You may be considered for available positions in any of these classifications depending on your qualifications. This is a Temporary, Emergency Hire, and/or hourly intermittent appointment. No probationary period. No permanent status is granted.

Salary Range For Each Classification

Student Services Professional IA Salary Range: $3,513 - 4,298 per month

Student Services Professional IB Salary Range: $3,796- 5,369 per month

Student Services Professional II Salary Range: $4,304- 6,120 per month

Student Services Professional III Salary Range: $4,691- 6,683 per month

Student Services Professional IV Salary Range: $5,351 - 7,633 per month

Position Summary

Student Services Professionals are responsible for providing a wide variety of professional services and activities ranging from preadmission to the university through post-graduation. The purpose of these services and activities is to assist students in making successful progress toward their degree objectives; to provide learning experiences, which supplement those in the classroom; and to assist and encourage students to utilize effectively the knowledge, skills and abilities learned during their university careers.

Such services and activities may include providing information and guidance to students; assisting students to think through problems and select suitable solutions and courses of action; evaluating student needs and authorizing services; coordinating and administering programs, events, and projects; facilitating student involvement in campus life; advocating the needs of individual students and groups of students to university administrators, faculty and staff; and providing support and assistance to students facing a variety of personal as well as institutional problems, questions, and challenges.

In addition, Student Services Professionals may serve as working supervisors or lead persons.

Qualifications

SSP IA: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field (specialized and relevant experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis); working knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior, research and observation techniques for the purpose of recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information, techniques and methods of interviewing. Ability to gather and analyze data; ability to reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate commendations; ability to participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences, and interviews; ability to clearly express ideas and recommendations orally; ability to write clear and concise reports; ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

SSP IB: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field (specialized and relevant experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis) AND one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level (Equivalent amounts of graduate-level; job-related education may be substituted for the required experience). Working knowledge of the methods/problems of organization and program management, research/interviewing techniques, and principles of individual/group behavior. Ability to interpret and apply program rules/regulations, gather/analyze data and reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations, present clear and concise information orally and in written reports, acquire knowledge of the campus procedures and activities and the overall organization, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

SSP II: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field AND two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field. (A Master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis). General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational management, research, and interview techniques; ability to interpret and apply program rules/regulations, use initiative in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise and organize programs and activities; ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff and the public; ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters; ability to complete assignments without detailed instructions; and ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of the campus procedures and activities and the overall organization is required.

SSP III: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field including or supplemented by upper-division or graduate course work in counseling techniques interviewing and conflict resolution AND three years of professional student services work field (A Master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience OR a doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in the relevant field may be substituted for three years of the required professional experience). Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise and organize programs and activities; ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public; ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters; ability to complete assignments without detailed instructions; and ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of the campus procedures and activities and the overall organization are required. Finalists will be required to submit verification of upper-division coursework (i.e., transcripts).

SSP IV: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field PLUS upper-division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution AND four years of professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems (a master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience OR a doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in the relevant field may be substituted for two years of professional experience). General knowledge of the problems and methods of public administration, including organizational, personnel, and fiscal management, advanced statistical and research methods; ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise and organize programs and activities; ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff and the public; ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters; ability to complete assignments without detailed instructions; and ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of the campus procedures and activities and the overall organization are required. Finalists will be required to submit verification of upper-division coursework (i.e., transcripts).
