The State University of New York, College at Plattsburgh invites applications for assistant professor of public relations in the Department of Journalism and Public Relations. This 10-month, tenure-track position is expected to begin Fall 2014.

The Department of Journalism and Public Relations hosts a PRSSA chapter, a student-led public relations agency (Cardinal PR), a nationally acclaimed student newspaper and a prize-winning regional magazine.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities: Teach courses in both fall and spring semesters, including Public Relations Principles, Public Relations Management and Public Relations Campaigns, and other public relations and communication courses in the public relations curriculum. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a clear ability to teach and advise in an undergraduate public relations program, pursue productive avenues of scholarship and be of service to the college, community and profession.

Required Qualifications:

Masters degree in public relations or related field
Significant record of applied experience in the public relations discipline
Proven ability to teach undergraduate courses in public relations and communication
Clear ability to advise students in an undergraduate public relations program
Evidence of having pursued productive avenues of scholarship
Record of service to institution, community and profession

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. in public relations or a related field
Evidence of mentoring academic service learning projects in upper-level public relations courses or a student-led public relations agency
Service as adviser to a PRSSA chapter


Salary: $50,000 minimum, plus excellent benefits.
