Research Associate in Plant Immunity


The Department of Biology at the University of Virginia invites candidates for a Research Associate (Postdoctoral) position available to study new plant defense mechanisms involving the manipulation of nutrient availability in response to microbes as well as microbial pathogenicity mechanisms that secure the availability of nutrient from the host plant. The projects take multidisciplinary approaches using Arabidopsis thaliana and corn, including but not limited to high-throughput genetic screens, genome-wide association, biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, and bioinformatics.


The candidate must have strong motivation to learn and succeed as an independent scientist, which should be reflected in his/her current publication record. A Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field by the appointment start-date is required. Experience in plant molecular biology, metabolite chemical analyses (HPLC/LCMS), and next-generation sequencing are preferred. Effective oral and written communication skills are required.
