Job Description

The Department of Fine and Performing Arts, College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) seeks a full-time Assistant Professor of Clarinet/Saxophone to begin the Fall of 2024. TAMIU is a growing university of over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant bilingual and bicultural city with a population of about 250,000. For more information, visit www.tamiu.edu. This is a tenure-track position. A reduced load (2-2 for the first two years) is provided to allow the new hire to focus on research/creative output in music or closely related area. Duties also include teaching applied studio lessons, mentoring students, coaching ensembles, supporting the music program with recruitment, and collaborating with faculty for recitals and special events. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate must hold a doctorate in music with specialization in performance. ABDs will also be considered but must have earned a doctorate before appointment. We strongly encourage candidates with an interest in musicology to apply. We desire candidates who: (a) will work closely with faculty to develop and maintain positive relationships with local and regional public-school teachers; (b) will demonstrate and maintain a commitment to excellence in teaching, and participating in service activities appropriate at the candidate's rank; (c) are versatile with an ability to teach undergraduate applied courses, woodwind pedagogy, and ensembles, as well as courses in musicology or a secondary area of interest.

We offer competitive salaries and a benefits package including health insurance, retirement benefits, and life insurance. Additional pay is available for summer teaching. Financial support for professional development opportunities, such as attending academic conferences, is also provided. Moving expenses are covered in whole or in part by the university.

Application Process:

The first review of applications will be February 1, 2024. The completed employment application must include:

1) Letter of interest that addresses qualifications

2) Current curriculum vitae

3) Unofficial transcripts specifying conferred/ABD degree

4) Names and contact information of three current professional references

5) Links to recordings (no older than five years)

Applications must be submitted online at https://www.tamiu.edu/adminis/ohr/employment/. For more information, contact Search Committee Chair Dr. Gilberto Soto at gsoto@tamiu.edu or (956) 326-3046.

INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANT: During the application process, you have only one opportunity to enter the requested information, upload documents, and submit the application. You will not be able to make changes or add additional documents once you “Submit” the application materials. The software does not allow you to “Save” your application and return to complete the process at a later time. The page "My Experience" has an area provided under Resume/CV to drop or upload files.

Applications received by Texas A&M International University must have all job application data entered. Failure to provide all job application data could result in an invalid submission and a rejected application. “See resume” is not an acceptable entry in the job application.

All positions are security-sensitive. Applicants are subject to a criminal history investigation, and employment is contingent upon the institution's verification of credentials and/or other information required by the institution's procedures, including the completion of the criminal history check.
