Primary Purpose of Position:
The Accessibility Coordinator manages academic accommodations & assistive technology service operations for the Office of Student Accessibility Services (SAS). This position serves as a key administrator in ensuring all SAS Scholars have the necessary accommodations and tools to ensure their academic success. The Accessibility Coordinator also works in collaboration with SAS Administrative staff to accomplish units goals and objectives. The Accessibility Coordinator will also work alongside the SAS Director and SAS Team as a consultant, serving University Faculty and Staff to ensure compliance with federal mandates, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Americans with Disabilities Amendment Act and section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Provide professional level support and services to students with disabilities in accordance with American with Disabilities Act of 1990 and section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

-Meet with Assigned Caseload of SAS Scholars to ensure their academic, personal, and professional success and keep accurate records of documentation in Eagle Accommodate System.

-Provide referrals to campus and community resources as appropriate.

-Manage processes and procedures for accommodations & assistive technology services.

-Working with SAS Leadership Team to determine necessary accommodations based on disability-related documentation. Consult with health care providers as needed.

-Advise faculty on reasonable accommodations for classroom accessibility

-Maintain student records and confidentiality.

-Develop assessment and evaluation tools to ensure goals and objectives are met for accommodations and assistive technology services.

-Aid coordination of Annual SAS Conference and other SAS events/activities for campus community.

-Aid in hiring, supervising, training, and evaluating of SAS Undergraduate student assistants and volunteers in collaboration with Directors.

-Represent SAS Department on University Committees and Programming Initiatives as needed.

-Attend State & Regional Conferences and Trainings for Accessibility Professionals -Evening and weekend hours plus travel trainings and conferences as needed.

-Other duties as assigned by the SAS Leadership Team

Minimum Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The successful candidate must be able to:
  • Communicate effectively with various populations and University constituents
  • Collaborate with all segments of the University in identifying difficulties and barriers for students with disabilities
  • Provide solutions for problems preventing individual or groups of students with disabilities from achieving their academic potential.
  • He or she must be a strong advocate for students with disabilities, willing and able to represent the student in instances when the traditional processes and strategies have not met with success.
  • Knowledge of various assistive technologies, budgeting and grant management is a plus.
