Assistant to the Vice President for Administration

The Division of Business Affairs  at the State University of New York, College at Plattsburgh, is seeking qualified internal and external applications for the position of Assistant to the Vice President for Administration. Reporting to the Vice President for Administration, the successful candidate shall provide leadership and coordinate campus programs and management services. The Assistant to Vice President for Administration will have direct administrative responsibility over management-related services for the Business Affairs Division and College in general. In addition, the Assistant to the Vice President of Administration will be the Compliance Officer for the Campus. The successful candidate will be committed to a team-oriented, inclusive management philosophy, and environment. This position requires highly developed interpersonal skills to interact and facilitate at all levels in the organization in order to resolve administrative problems and concerns; a high level of confidentiality will be of utmost importance.


Responsibilities include: General coordination and oversight of Management Services; act as a general liaison on behalf of the Business Affairs Division and campus, including its agencies; coordination of professional development and training programs for Business Affairs Division; coordinate process and procedures in updating Parking Regulations; review of agreements on behalf of the campus including Student Activities; approval of Public Forum Requests, and intermittent special projects as determined by Vice President for Administration. Directly responsible for review, determination and response of appropriate FOIL requests, coordinate collection of various information, and respond in compliance with appropriate laws. Work closely with Attorney Generals Office and SUNY Legal Counsel regarding search warrants, liability waivers, trademarks, copyright issues, liquor permits, revocable permits, MOUs and small claims. Monitor and keep abreast of legal issues identified by SUNY Counsel that may impact the college. Follow-up on both internal and external complaints and inquiries on behalf of Vice President for Administration. This position requires occasional evening and weekend work.


Required Qualifications: Bachelors Degree; a minimum of 5 years related administrative experience with progressive managerial and administrative responsibilities; strong interpersonal skills; high level of communication skills, including the ability to write and present clearly and effectively; demonstrated ability to work with all levels of constituent groups internally and externally; strong organizational skills; ability to work efficiently and confidently with technology in the workplace. Successful candidates must demonstrate an ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, staff, students and administrators Candidates must have the ability to exhibit discretion, confidentiality, collegiality, and composure in a demanding executive setting; ability to quickly learn computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite. Candidate must have the ability to work as a self-starter, as well as a member of a team, to complete tasks efficiently and with attention to detail, persistence, initiative to investigate and comply with organizational policies and procedures. Adaptability to additional responsibilities based on the changing needs of the Office of Vice President for Administration is also needed.


Preferred Qualifications: Masters degree; knowledge of campus and local policies and procedures will be highly regarded.
