Assistant University Librarian & Head of Instructional Technology

The Assistant University Librarian and Head of Instructional Technology assists the University Librarian in planning, organizing, directing and communicating an effective program of library and instructional technology services for UNC Asheville, with particular emphasis on communications and day-to-day operations. This person will have leadership responsibility for a newly created Media Lab.

Required Education/Experience/Skills (Minimum Qualifications)
A Master's degree from an ALA-accredited Library and Information Science program or equivalent. A minimum of three years successful experience in a supervisory role in an academic library. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and decision-making skills; excellent oral and written communication skills. A commitment to public service and a strong commitment to high quality customer service to students, faculty, staff and patrons.

Preferred education/experience/skills:
Experience in working with instructional technology, including tools of digital humanities, web and media technology. Knowledge of course management systems and eportfolios. Budgeting experience. Experience in developing and tracking assessment methods for measuring organizational effectiveness. Experience with strategic planning, policy creation and management. Experience in library instruction.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
Demonstrated proficiency in library and instructional technology and principles of instructional design. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, to successfully balance competing priorities, and to successfully manage deadlines. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with senior administrators, alumni, colleagues, faculty, staff and students. Demonstrated successful supervisory experience with an ability to provide leadership to build teams, foster collaborations and build strong working relationships. Knowledge of principles of information literacy. Knowledge of principles of academic librarianship, including collection management.
