Assistant Professor, Criminal Justice

The Department of Criminal Justice at the State University of New York, College at Plattsburgh, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor, effective August 2014. The successful candidate will be committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service in an institution dedicated primarily to undergraduate education. He or she will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to diversity and gender issues, as SUNY Plattsburgh is committed to ensuring that its graduates are educated to succeed in an increasingly complex, multicultural, and interdependent world.

Responsibilities include:
The primary area of expertise for instruction is punishment and society; the successful candidate should also be a generalist and willing to teach criminology, criminal justice systems, criminal justice research methods and an advanced writing and research seminar.

Position duties also include campus/department service and student advising. Candidates may be asked to teach courses in a distance learning format.

Required Qualifications:
A PhD degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, Political Science, Law and Society or closely related field is required by the time of appointment. The primary area of expertise is punishment and society.

The successful candidate will have an active research agenda, a strong promise of publications and a commitment to excellent teaching, as well as the ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, staff, and administrators.
