Through year-round programming and summer activities at Camp Shomria, members of Hashomer Hatzair USA learn and grow together in an environment that promotes and models youth leadership, personal maturation, cooperation, and a passion for social justice.  Hashomer Hatzair USA is part of a global youth movement with branches in 27 countries.

Located in Liberty, NY, Camp Shomria is a 117-acre facility that serves approximately 130 campers each summer, with a staff of approximately 40 young leaders and roughly 20 adults. Camp Shomria strives to provide a vibrant, fun, and caring community that enriches and strengthens a humanistic Jewish identity. Job Summary:

The Development Manager will play a key role in advancing the fundraising efforts for Hashomer Hatzair USA and Camp Shomria. This individual will be responsible for designing and implementing comprehensive fundraising strategies, cultivating donor relationships, and ensuring the sustainability and growth of our programs. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in fundraising, excellent communication skills, and a passion for the mission and values of Hashomer Hatzair USA and Camp Shomria.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership 

    Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with the organization's goals. Together with the board, help set the fundraising goals and give input to the budget each fiscal year. Manage the stewardship and solicitation of all current major gift donors and prospects.  Develop strategies to expand, enhance and cultivate the current donor base. Partner with the Board to plan and support relevant committee meetings (particularly the Fundraising and Endowment Committees) and lead fundraising activities, marketing, special events, and alumni engagement.  Serve as an integral part of the leadership of the Hashomer Hatzair USA team, playing an active, visible role.

Development Planning and Relationship Management

    Identify potential donors, and develop strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for donors (individuals, organizations, and foundations) Collaborate on the planning, organization, and implementation of fundraising activities and special events – including annual giving and capital campaigns, meetings, stakeholder events, direct mail, cultivation visits, solicitation visits, etc.   Maintain and build existing foundation and community partner relationships and identify new opportunities for partnership and/or support.   Collaborate with various lay leaders to plan events and engage alumni throughout the year.

Development Operations 

    Ensure the maintenance of our donor database and accurate donor records, donor communication, and other related areas. Generate pledge reminders and all needed reports for donors, committees, foundations, etc. and provide regular reports on fundraising activities to the Board and professional staff, in cooperation with the Fundraising Committee. Write, edit and/or submit grant proposals and reports, as needed.  Write and prepare materials needed for development-related communications, including newsletters, e-mails, appeals, campaign materials, and website.

Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree  Proven experience in fundraising, with a track record of successful donor cultivation and solicitation. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and project management abilities. Familiarity with the Jewish community and a commitment to the values of Hashomer Hatzair USA/Camp Shomria.

Knowledge of Hebrew is a plus.
