Job Description: The Small Animal Hospital is recruiting for an experienced Veterinary Technician for their Ocala Emergency Practice. 1. This position will act as an emergency technician. 2. This position offers opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the Ocala Hospital. 3. Seeking an individual who has excellent nursing skills, an interest in working with other technicians and assisting with teaching residents and students in techniques and protocols. 4. The technician should be excellent in communication. 5. This individual should be an outgoing individual with a lot of initiative. 6. This position will be involved with client communications, patient care, teaching veterinary students and technicians and communicating with referring veterinarians. 7. Should have knowledge of anatomy and physiology, anesthesia, emergency and critical care procedures, bandage techniques, and basic veterinary medicine. 8. This position requires a post offer health exam.
Minimum Requirements: Graduation from an accredited American Veterinary Medical Association program for veterinary technology and\/or met requirements for certification in the state of Florida; or a high school diploma and four years of veterinary work experience. Minimum of two years of practical experience in an academic hospital environment or equivalent education and practical experience in private practice. Documented completion of 20 hours continuing education within the last two years. Cross training may substitute for continuing education. Successful completion of the basic skills mastery list.
Preferred Qualifications 1. Graduation from an accredited veterinary technology program and\\:or certified veterinary technician 2. Specialty in Emergency Medicine 3. Knowledge of animal care and nursing, especially critical care. 4. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and terminology. 5. Knowledge of the equipment and materials used and their availability and applications. 6. Ability to effectively maintain a working environment while in stressful situations. 7. Ability to effectively communicate with employees of various levels and responsibilities 8. Excellent Customer Service Skills 9. Good communication skills, both verbally (telephone and person-to-person); as well as good literacy skills (ability to read and compose grammatically correct sentences) are critical to success on this position. 10. Good computer skills. 11. Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner. 12. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate 13. Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations involving money 14. Ability to work accurately with attention to detail 15. Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule 16. Ability to set priorities and solve problems
