JOB SUMMARY The Visiting Architecture and Fine Arts Librarian is a temporary position that begins January 1 and ends August 15, 2014. Provides general and specialized reference and access services in the areas of art, architecture, and allied fields. Serves as faculty liaison and provides instructional services for the areas of architecture, building construction, interior design, landscape architecture, and urban and regional planning. Develops collections in Design, and Construction and Planning. Maintains and augments web-based information resources. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Provide public services (reference research instruction, access services) at the Architecture & Fine Arts Library. Duties include: a. Staffing the service desk and providing direct patron service (reference, circulation, course reserves). b. Providing general and specialized reference and instruction assistance to the University community, with primary attention to AFA Library clientele. c. Developing handouts, guides, web sites, or other support documentation as required for the effective provision of these service and ensuring that these materials are routinely updated and made available for public use. 2. Serve as Faculty liaison to the College of Design, Construction & Planning (School of Architecture, M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Building Construction, and the Departments of Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, and Urban & Regional Planning). Duties include: a. Communicating with faculty about collection needs and priorities. b. Selecting materials for the collection c. Review of gift materials d. Working with technical services staff to obtain and process selected material and to advise on cataloging and preservation needs and priorities.
Minimum Requirements: Required\: Masterdegree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent. Undergraduate degree in the arts or design. 3 years post-MLS library experience. Academic library experience in collection development and management, public services, and\/or technical services. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with faculty, students, administrators and the general public. Experience maintaining and updating websites. Working knowledge of library and educational technologies. Excellent planning, analytical and organizational skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Initiative, flexibility and the ability to adapt and work creatively in a complex, rapidly changing academic environment.
Preferred Qualifications Experience working in an academic library serving arts and design disciplines.
