DEAN OF STUDENTS IN THE COLLEGE

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS

The University of Chicago, one of the nation's preeminent institutions of higher education, is searching for a leader in higher education to head its undergraduate student affairs division as Dean of Students in the College. Reporting to the Dean of the College, the Dean of Students plays a central role in supporting the success of 5,600 students. The Dean of Students leads a professional staff of 29 academic advisers and deans who provide individualized academic advising to all undergraduates, helping them to design an appropriate program of study leading to a degree in a selected major, connecting students with opportunities on- and off-campus, supporting students in postgraduate planning, and assisting students in the resolution of personal, financial, or academic problems. In addition, the Dean of Students engages with the Dean of the College and the College faculty in strategic planning for the College, helps implement educational programs, and assesses outcomes. The Dean of Students partners closely with faculty and academic departments; intervenes in student crises; serves as a primary resource for parents; coordinates with other key areas involved in College student support, such as Multicultural Student Affairs, Housing, Career Advancement, Student Activities, and Health Services; and helps set College priorities across many areas.

The Dean of Students will provide a respected, strong, and credible leadership voice in the continuing dialogue about the student experience in the College, especially as it relates to academic success; serve as a trusted professional partner for the Dean of the College; and bring a nuanced understanding of high-quality academic advising and student support in the context of a rigorous liberal arts program.
