Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost

The University of Massachusetts Amherst, a major public research university campus, seeks a Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost. Located in the historic Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts and established in 1863 under the Morrill Land Grant Act, the University of Massachusetts Amherst is the flagship campus of the University of Massachusetts system. Offering a full range of undergraduate and graduate degrees, the 1,200-acre campus serves approximately 20,000 undergraduate students and nearly 6,000 graduate students in a rich cultural setting. The campus is a member of the Five Colleges Inc., a consortium that includes Amherst, Hampshire, Mt. Holyoke and Smith Colleges along with the UMass Amherst campus.

The Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost is the chief academic officer of the campus, reports to the Chancellor, and serves in the Chancellor's stead when the Chancellor is unavailable. Working in close collaboration with and guiding the rest of the campus administrative team, the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost provides intellectual and administrative leadership for academic programs and student success, for research and scholarship, and for university outreach. The Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost has broad management authority over the campus' Schools and Colleges, in addition to the Graduate School and the University's Commonwealth Honors College.  Candidates must have earned a doctorate from an accredited institution, and have a record of successful teaching and scholarship commensurate with tenure as a full professor in one of the academic departments on the campus. Candidates should have academic administrative experience including evaluation of faculty, program development, and budget planning. Important attributes will include demonstrated academic leadership ability, a commitment to the highest standards of excellence, commitment to collaboration and to diversity, and proven success in representing the priorities of the campus to diverse audiences internal and external to the campus.
