The University of Cincinnati is currently accepting applications for a Director, Academic. The College of Nursing is seeking a Director to be responsible for development and oversight of the Clinical Simulation Lab (CSL) strategic plan including expansion objectives, space design, equipment selection, budget preparation, partnership cultivation, marketing and funding initiatives. Hires, trains, supervise, evaluate and promote the professional development of CSL staff. Promotes a stimulating, realistic learning environment in lab settings, which emphasizes experiential learning and seeks to continually expand and upgrade the learning resources. Prepares an annual evaluation and report. Recommends new policies, procedures, and programs for CSL.

Academic Support: In close collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs, analyze aggregate data to prioritize learning needs and design appropriate developmental and enrichment programs. Directs the assessment of barriers to students' learning and success and develops group and individualized interventions to promote academic success. Identifies academic and clinical support priorities, allocates resources appropriately and seeks to expand these resources. Delegates programmatic responsibilities to appropriate CSL staff and evaluates effectiveness. Develops and maintains working relationships with other university resources and refers students appropriately. Designs, implements and evaluates group academic support services, i.e., workshops, trainings, peer coaching teams and study groups. Serves on university wide academic support committees,

Teaching/Instruction: Directs the design, equipment selection, script writing and implementation of simulation activities (patient care situations set in the nursing lab using high and mid fidelity human patient simulators (HPS) and equipment that mimic in hospital clinical activities), throughout the nursing curriculum. Develops and offers academic support and enrichment workshops. Evaluates, acquires and integrates technology based learning tools into the CSL.

Faculty and Interdepartmental Collaboration: Serves as an expert resource to faculty in areas of competency-based education, program development, study and test taking strategies and skill development. Consults with faculty about student progress and learning needs. Presents simulation integration goals, designs and implements faculty trainings and serves as simulation consultant for faculty. Serves on selected college and university committees and participates in selected college and university activities. Collaborates with faculty in the design and coordination of CSL based learning activities that enhance course content. Works closely with staff from Institutional Advancement in identifying and pursuing funding sources to support CSL expansion including foundations, grants, corporations and individual donors.

Research: Identifies and coordinates research activities appropriate for CSL participation; seeks training and equipment grants that will support CSL teaching initiatives. Participates in National Conferences.    

 

Minimum Qualifications: Academic positions will require specific educational credentials and experience related to the program for which the position is responsible.

 

Ideal Qualifications:

Master's degree in nursing
Current Ohio RN license
Knowledge of state and federal regulations governing nursing practice
Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service orientation
Able to work effectively with a diverse constituency
Program development, leadership, and management experience preferred
Recent clinical experience as RN preferred
Teaching experience required
Recent experience in the development of simulation activities preferred
