Job Description Summary:
The Manager of Business Intelligence (BI) is responsible for providing strategic and effective leadership in creating and managing the reporting infrastructure that supports business intelligence, data analytics, and complex and standard reporting solutions to all areas at Austin Community College.

The Manager is the primary support person for the Data Warehouse, Reporting, Analysis, and Analytics team, and takes a senior role on tasks and mentoring/managing database and reporting analysts and database administrators on the team within the IT department.

In addition to creating business intelligence products, as well as custom reports and dashboards for customers and coworkers, this position is responsible for analyzing reporting system problems, programming fixes to existing reporting & analytics systems, assisting in the development of reporting scope specifications and developing new programs to automate reporting and analytics processes. This role consists of a wide variety of programming tasks, development, testing, maintenance, and implementation, as well as fully participating in new software and system projects assigned to the BI Department.

Job Description:
Description of Duties and TasksEssential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Supervises, trains, coaches, directs, coordinates, and disciplines personnel while adhering to organizational human resource policies and procedures as well as related employment laws. Recommends hire and termination personnel actions for positions supervised.
  • Manages strategic reporting and data projects, performs strategic analysis of reporting best practices, design reporting, and data process flows.
  • Supervises Analysts performing high level reporting and analysis and provides direction and mentoring to team.
  • Supervises Database Administrators.
  • Prioritizes and delegates requests received by the Reporting and Analytics team.
  • Leads and provides QC guidelines for the work of the Database Reporting and Analytics team.
  • Analyzes data and develops business dashboards for managers, customers and administrators.
  • Helps organize reporting software training to reporting specialists in administrative departments, as well as to IT staff.
  • Leads in the evaluation and implementation of selected IT business intelligence, analytics, and reporting software solutions.
  • Provides extensive knowledge and expertise in the use of all selected IT reporting software solutions.
  • Develops and maintains complex administrative database reports; develops and maintains complex internal and third party data extracts.
  • Converts critical existing reports from old or obsolete software into newer, IT-supported reporting software queries and programs.
  • In coordination with Quality Control team, ensures accuracy of standards and procedural documentation related to reporting solutions.


Knowledge
Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

  • High level of knowledge and competency in current reporting software tools at ACC.
  • High level of knowledge and competency in relational database management systems, including MS SQL Server.
  • Knowledge of the principles of business intelligence and data analytics.
  • Knowledge of documentation of SQL query and relational database schemas.
  • Knowledge of strategic project management of reporting and data solutions.

  • Use a variety of spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software.
  • Use query and control languages, program, create complex reports, work with reporting software tools, deal with database management systems, and provide technical support.


Required Work Experience

  • Three years related work experience and one year supervisory experience.
  • Completion of the ACC Supervisor Certificate Series Program will satisfy the supervisory experience required for this position.


Preferred Work Experience

  • Five years related work experience.
  • Five years related work experience in developing and maintaining complex reports using current reporting software tools.
  • Experience with Entrinsik Informer, Crystal Reports, SAS, and/or SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).


Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree.


Special RequirementsLicenses/Certifications; Other

  • Valid Texas Driver's License and reliable transportation for travel in the Austin area as required.


Other Preferred Qualifications

  • SQL programming skills.
  • Familiarity with MS SQL Server DBMS.


Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in a standard office or similar environment.
  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.

  • Supervise safe operation of unit. Facilitate safety inspections. Take reasonable and prudent actions to eliminate identified hazards. Ensure employees receive appropriate safety training and foster a workplace safety culture.


Salary Range

$85,239 - $106,548
