The Department of Social Medicine at the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine at Ohio University seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Epidemiology.  PhD in epidemiology or closely related field, some teaching experience, and evidence of an active research agenda required. The successful candidate will hold a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Social Medicine, a multi-disciplinary department comprised of social scientists who study health policy and politics, the social determinants of health, and factors affecting clinical decision-making. The Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM) houses four institutes to enhance faculty research: Appalachian Rural Health Institute, Diabetes Research Institute, Global Health Initiative, and Ohio Musculoskeletal and Neurological Institute.




The successful candidate will be situated on the HCOM extension campus in Dublin, OH, a suburb of Columbus. The extension campus will open in August 2014, easing access for research purposes to urban populations outside of Appalachia Ohio. Prior to the opening of the extension campus in 2014, the successful candidate will be expected to spend time at the main HCOM campus in Athens, OH to become familiar with the HCOM curriculum and with colleagues in the Department of Social Medicine.




RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and conduct a coherent research program; Publish articles in peer-reviewed publications; Write and submit grants to secure external funding in the course of developing and conducting a research agenda; Provide methodological and statistical assistance to colleagues; Facilitate medical student discussion groups and conduct problem sets; Offer lectures to medical students in the candidates fields of interest; and serve on Departmental, College, and University committees.
