Associate Director of Physical Plant

The Associate Director of Physical Plant plans, directs, and coordinates the activities of the Physical Plant Department, including sustainability efforts, building maintenance, housekeeping, grounds, storeroom, motor pool, engineering, and purchasing. The associate director reports to the Director of Physical Plant & CESCO.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, or management, or equivalent experience is required.
• This position requires a valid Driver's license, a good driving record, and must be insurable by the College's insurance carrier.
• Ten years of experience in facilities management, with five years in a supervisory position is required.
• Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills; good verbal and written communication skills; and the ability to work calmly during high demand periods while effectively managing multiple tasks and/or projects.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office preferred.

Job Responsibilities:

• Directs and coordinates Physical Plant daily operations including planning, directing, and prioritizing maintenance performed on college facilities; planning and directing new construction and renovation projects; inspecting college facilities to ensure compliance with Rhodes standards and governing codes
• Administers operating and capital improvement budgets; requests and analyzes bids and price quotations for labor, equipment, and materials.
• Establishes policies and standards for Physical Plant operations, interviews prospective Physical Plant employees; disciplines Physical Plant employees as directed by the college handbook; and reviews job performance of Physical Plant supervisors.
• Oversees, coordinates, and administers the safety and safety training program for Physical Plant
• Oversees, coordinates, and administers the computerized work order system.
• Oversees, coordinates, and administers Student worker operated Bike Shop and Recycle Programs.
• Regular attendance is an essential function to perform the duties of this position.
