Job Purpose:

Assures that objectives and expected learning outcomes are met by developing and supporting the programmatic evaluation and assessments of the four year D.O. program for the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, graduate medical education programs for the Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education (CORE) and other areas such as admissions, alumni, development, etc. Provides leadership in planning an institutional research and assessment protocol. Responsible for the accreditation efforts for OU-HCOM campuses.

Job Responsibilities:

-Direct the academic assessment and accreditation activities for OU-HCOM and CORE and other units/programs. Analyzes and publishes institutional assessment and accreditation information at the department, college, upper administration and national levels. Direct the collection, maintenance and distribution of data for HCOM campuses.

-Direct the development and implementation of graduate medical education evaluation programs to monitor educational outcomes in accordance with the AOA Standards.

-Serve as a consultant to faculty and staff on assessment and accreditation issues such as evaluation design, methodologies, and data analysis projects. Collaborate with offices and departments within HCOM to provide outcomes, data, development issues/needs and to maximize outcome effectiveness.

-Conduct workshops on evaluation theory and techniques to campus and CORE faculty to improve programming and accreditation methodologies.

-Decisions will impact the quality and effectiveness of the educational programs affecting the OU-HCOM pre-doctoral students and the Graduate Medical Education trainees, both on the Athens main campus, future Dublin and Cleveland campuses, as well as throughout the statewide CORE system. Errors could result in issues with accreditation for the medical school or eventually loss of accreditation.

-Successful fulfillment of the responsibilities associated with this position requires a perspective large enough to provide effective direction for the evaluation coordinators and student hourly employees, as well as meeting the evaluation and accreditation needs of faculty, trainees, internship and residency programs. The person in this position must be self-directed, focused, highly motivated and committed to working in a very creative and collaborative educational environment. This individual needs strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with various colleagues and to interact with numerous faculty members, program directors, and administrative staff on the all campuses and at the CORE hospitals. She/he must be able to identify potential conflicts and to construct creative collaborative solutions. Excellent time management and organizational skills are essential when dealing with busy academic and clinical faculty and directors, most of who are engaged in active research projects and/or maintain private clinical practice. This position also requires a level of comfort with supervising and evaluating people who do not directly report to them and are located throughout the college campuses and CORE system. This position must be able to travel and work some weekend/evening hours.

Minimal Qualifications:

-Doctorate Degree with a focus on higher education, Institutional Assessment, educational research/measurement, social sciences or related field required by the time of application.

-Demonstrated experience in data collection, data analysis and assessment, program evaluation and thorough knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research and assessment methodologies. Proficiency in research design, data analysis and creation and use of evaluation instruments. Strong background in educational research and evaluation, knowledge of innovative assessment strategies, familiarity with web-based evaluation strategies. Excellent customer service and team building skills.

-At least Seven (7) years of experience teaching, assessment, measurement, evaluation or institutional research to ensure adequate exposure and understanding of the variety of issues that impact curricular programming and evaluation in a changing environment. Understanding of accreditation standards.

Experience with directing and coordinating multiple and diverse projects.

Ability to work with a variety of people with variable and sometimes conflicting priorities and preferences.

Preferred

-Emphasis in medical education

-Superior written and oral communications skills are required. Success in this position will require planning, organization, flexibility and adaptation. Possession of critical analysis skills is imperative. Experience creating databases and working with statistical software and spreadsheets is a must. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Open communication skills are required. Excellent supervisory skills required.

-Experience in osteopathic medical education, higher education or health professions education.
