Position: The Department of Food and Nutrition at Indiana University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a nine-month tenure track position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning August 2014.
About the Department: The Department is one of nine units in the College of Health and Human Services with six tenure track faculty lines. The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition, a Master of Science in Food and Nutrition, and a Dietetic Internship. At the undergraduate level, the B.S. curriculum includes three major tracks: culinary dietetics, dietetics, and nutrition. The culinary dietetics, dietetics, and dietetic internship are accredited by the Accreditation Council for the Education of Nutrition and Dietetics. The distance education graduate program is online and emphasizes applied nutrition.
Responsibilities: Major teaching responsibilities include a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of food and nutrition, likely to include food systems management and supervision of the management rotation in the dietetic internship. Other required activities include: student advising, curriculum development, intern supervision, and involvement in activities that support the department, university, community, and profession. The successful candidate may be assigned to perform work at off-campus sites and/or provide undergraduate and graduate instruction through distance education.
Qualifications: Earned doctorate in food systems management, human nutrition, or a related field by the date of appointment. Demonstrated knowledge in food, nutrition and management required. The ability to: teach large groups, work collaboratively, and show a commitment to pursuing an active research agenda is required. Candidates must communicate effectively and perform well during the interview(s) which may include a teaching demonstration and/or a research seminar.
Preferred Qualifications: The department is interested in candidates who have demonstrated commitment to excellence by providing leadership in teaching, research and service towards building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment. Preference will be given to candidates whose experience as an educator and/or work-related experiences include: food systems management, food and nutrition policy, local food systems, sustainable food systems, food insecurity, or related disciplines. Publications/research and/or grant writing experience is desirable. Registered Dietitian credential and licensure (or eligibility for licensure) is desirable but not required. Supervision of internships and leadership in professional organizations are also preferred.
