The University of Texas Permian Basin's Department of Literature and Language welcomes applications for the position of Senior Lecturer in Spanish



Salary Range

$55,000.00 depending on qualifications

Essential Functions

This is a full-time nine (9) month appointment. Responsibilities include teaching and curricular development from beginning to advanced language, culture, and literature undergraduate courses, as well as Latin American and Peninsular Spanish literature graduate courses. The person hired will teach a mix of online and face-to-face (five courses per full semester). Some service will be expected.

1. Must be able to teach and develop courses for the Spanish B.A. and M.A. programs.
2. Provide support to students in need of academic improvement.
3. Mentor students from a broad range of backgrounds and lived experience, including first- generation and Hispanic students.
4. Service to the university, college, and/or department as needed.
5. Actively participate in the department's success.
6. Other reasonable assignments as needed for the advancement of the Literature and Languages department and the Spanish program.

Required Qualifications

1. Doctorate in Spanish.
2. Experience in online and face-to-face teaching.
3. Ability to teach as a generalist within the Spanish M.A. (courses on Latin American and Peninsular Spanish literature, film, and culture) and the Spanish B.A. (introductory to upper-level language, literature, and culture courses).
4. Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience in using Canvas.
2. Experience in online course development.

Schedule

Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.



Standard Working Conditions

1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
6. Standard working conditions may differ depending on department and occupation.
