Position 1: Chair, Department of Radio-TV-Film

The College of Communications, California State University, Fullerton invites applications for Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Radio-TV-Film. The department consists of a dynamic and diverse group of faculty scholars and professionals with impressive media credentials who thrive on being innovative leaders in their fields. The department is made up of four separate emphases: Production, Screenwriting, Industry, and Critical Studies. It boasts of more than 700 undergraduate majors and 26 graduate students who are pursuing the Masters Degree in Fine Arts in Screenwriting.

Position
The ideal candidate is a scholar/professional with demonstrated successful leadership ability in a university setting who displays high energy, research excellence, and a commitment to diversity, technology, collaboration, and program improvement. In performing his/her duties, the chair is expected to seek the advice, counsel, and recommendation of his/her faculty colleagues, and conduct department affairs in a democratic and collaborative manner.

Responsibilities of the chair include implementing departmental and College policies; ensuring quality and currency of department curriculum and delivery methods; overseeing the day to day work of the department, and working with the dean and other chairs to support all aspects of the College of Communications. Because this is a 10-month position, the Department Chair is a faculty position with responsibility for teaching two courses a semester, providing academic advisement, participating in department/college/university service and engaging in scholarly and professional endeavors. Chairs are typically appointed for a three-year term, with opportunities for re-appointment. 

Ideally, the Chairs scholarly and/or professional experience and teaching background would be in the area of the TV studies or screenwriting, but other areas relevant to the departments curricular goals may also be considered.

Qualifications
Applicants must have:

  • A Ph.D. or MFA from an accredited institution at the time of application;
  • Demonstrable ability to work effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community and be committed to the preparation of graduates to meet the needs of the diverse populations of Southern California; and
  • A record of sustained scholarly or creative accomplishments.

Preference may be given to candidates who also demonstrate one or more of the following:

  • Experience in university advising and leadership;
  • Experience in the preparation of documents for institutional, state, and national accreditation processes;
  • Experience in the ongoing assessment of student learning and program quality; and
  • Ability to teach masters level courses offered by the Department.

Rank & Salary
This is an open rank tenured or tenure-track position, though appointment at the Full Professor rank is desired. The salary is competitive and commensurate to rank, experience, and qualifications. Periodic salary adjustments are enacted by the State Legislature. Position 2: Assistant Professor, Television Studies OR Screenwriting

The Department of Radio-TV-Film in the College of Communications, California State University, Fullerton invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Screenwriting or TV Studies. The department consists of a dynamic and diverse group of faculty scholars and professionals with impressive media credentials who thrive on being innovative leaders in their fields. The department is made up of four separate emphases: Production, Screenwriting, Industry, and Critical Studies. It boasts of more than 700 undergraduate majors and 26 graduate students who are pursuing the Masters Degree in Fine Arts in Screenwriting.

Position
The ideal candidate is a scholar or professional with a record of successful teaching at the university level. Specialization is open, but an emphasis in EITHER the critical study of television and/or transmedia OR writing for television, feature film, and/or transmedia is welcomed.

Depending on qualifications, the successful candidate will teach introductory and advanced undergraduate courses. The candidate also may be assigned courses in the Master of Fine Arts in Screenwriting program.

In addition, the candidate will be required to serve on department, college, and university committees.

Qualifications
Applicants must have:

  • A completed Ph.D. or MFA from an accredited institution by the start of the contract period;
  • Demonstrable ability to work effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community and be committed to the preparation of  graduates to meet the needs of the diverse populations of Southern California; and
  • Demonstrable scholarly potential and/or accomplishments (for the TV Studies applicant) or a significant record of creative activity (for the screenwriting applicant)

In addition, preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:

  • A record of successful teaching experience at the university level;
  • Ability to teach masters level courses offered by the department; and
  • Professional media experience
