DIRECTOR, VISITING INTERNATIONAL PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM

Michigan State University, recognized internationally as one of the worlds major research universities and a leader in global engagement, invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of the Visiting International Professional Program (VIPP). VIPPs mission, as part of International Studies and Programs, is to develop effective training programs for professionals from countries around the world.

Currently, VIPP serves about 200 professionals from various countries in 15 short- and long-term programs, which are offered in collaboration with MSUs colleges, departments, faculty and numerous international partners. The Director reports directly to the Universitys International Studies and Programs (ISP) Deans Office and supervises eight full-time and ten to fifteen part-time temporary staff and instructors. VIPP is admired internationally for its unique professional development programs that are designed to serve an array of professionals from around the world.

The Universitys leadership strongly supports furthering MSUs national prominence in global education, and making available advanced experiences in academic and experiential learning that will contribute to the trainees effectiveness as professionals and leaders in their respective areas of expertise.

Job Summary: The Director provides vision, leadership, innovation, and advocacy in developing strategies to strengthen non-degree programming for professionals in countries aligned with the universitys strategic priorities. Specifically, the Director is responsible to design and implement programs; develop and maintain oversight of budget; collaborate with academic and support units campus-wide; develop a strategic plan to expand recruitment in all regions aligned with MSUs strategic priorities; develop marketing strategies; establish international educational contracts with institutions abroad for short and long-term programs; recruit, select, evaluate, develop and supervise staff; recruit, select, monitor, and evaluate participants, and liaise with their sponsors; monitor and evaluate program outcomes; identify and solicit potential funding sources for conducting programs including writing grant and contract proposals; increase VIPP alumni engagement; and develop and nurture a network of local professionals who bring practical insights to participants through seminars and hands-on experience.

The Director is a member of a diverse ISP leadership team strongly committed to collegial decision-making and management, and as such must exemplify the integrity, leadership, accountability, and concern for the collective good expected of all of the Universitys international personnel. In addition, we seek an individual with skills and experience to develop and manage university international professional programs; an entrepreneurial person capable of intellectual leadership who can help catalyze a shared vision and can partner effectively with faculty, administration, and staff campus-wide and other partners in the community. A masters degree is required; a doctoral or other terminal degree is preferred. Proficiency in a foreign language(s) is desirable.
