About the Position
The Associate Director of Major Gifts inspires and motivates giving to Haverford College with innovative and traditional strategies and tactics to effectively cultivate and solicit all prospect segments of the Haverford constituency with a focus on major gifts, including giving toward Haverford’s current campaign. Working to strengthen philanthropic priorities of the College, the Associate Director cultivates financial support through creating, managing, and executing on integrated fundraising plans for current and prospective major gift donors while cultivating relationships with a wide range of key partners to significantly increase the visibility and importance of Haverford’s priorities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Under the guidance of and in collaboration with the Senior Director of Advancement and Campaign Manager, develop and implement strategic fundraising plans for current and prospective major gift donors, including creating donor engagement opportunities
  • Act as the primary liaison to multiple Haverford constituent groups, partnering with them on identifying funding opportunities, identifying prospective donors, and developing proposals that align with Haverford’s strategic plan and institutional priorities
  • Actively manage a portfolio of approximately 100-125 prospects (rated $100k-$1M), building relationships through direct outreach, meetings (in-person, phone, virtual) with the goal of successfully securing gifts for the College
  • In collaboration with IA Special Events, plan and attend a variety of events designed specifically for current and prospective high-level donors, including regional, national, international events
  • Work closely with Prospect Research and other members of IA to develop and implement individual Donor Engagement Plans, and to identify new prospects, including new demographic segments, for the campaign, and general, cultivation pool
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship on prospect follow-up and engagement, proposal creation, and acknowledgement of gift commitments
  • Document capacity/gift/engagement related information in Raiser’s Edge in a timely manner to ensure accurate data and reporting
  • Other responsibilities as needed to meet the goals of Institutional Advancement

Line of Report: The Associate Director of Major Gifts reports to Senior Director of Advancement and Campaign Manager and has no direct reports.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • Three (3) years of fundraising experience

Professional Competencies

  • Proven success in soliciting gifts from donors
  • Ability to function independently with assigned prospects while simultaneously working collaborative across departments and functions to achieve goals
  • Knowledge of fundraising philosophies and approaches
  • A dedication to and understanding of the skills needed to build relationships with a variety of constituencies
  • Ability to interact with gift prospects at all levels and members of the Board of Managers
  • Demonstrated experience working with fundraising volunteers
  • Outstanding project management and organization skills with a high level of attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with fundraising database (CRM, Raiser’s Edge) and basic computer software (Google Office Suite, Microsoft Office Suite)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in higher education
  • Experience working with major gift prospects

Special Requirements

  • Ability to travel extensively including domestically (a minimum of 5-7 days per month) and internationally (approximately 1–3 times per year)
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Possession of a valid U.S. Drivers’ License and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record check
