Summary of Purpose:
The Assistant Dean for Administration is responsible for the effective and efficient functioning of the School Schools administrative operations to advance both near term and long term institutional goals. Responsibilities include management of the Schools operations, facilities, information management and technology, and human resource functions while working closely with other members of the Schools senior staff. The Brown School is moving through a period of substantial growth and organizational change. The Assistant Dean for Administration will assure the successful transition to the Schools new facilities, implement organizational change and necessary new systems, and enhance the collaborative and supportive orientation of the Schools services.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise the operational and administrative leaders of the School including Facilities and Operations, Human Resources, Information Technology, and the Service Center.

Lead the development and implementation of policies and procedures for safety and  security, human resources and professional development of staff, efficient and effective use of physical facilities, and regulatory compliance.

Represent the dean in university and School administrative decisions including facilities management, campus security, food service, events management, classroom management, parking, purchasing, etc.

Work directly with faculty, research centers, and School staff to ensure the quality and  responsiveness of Schools administrative services.

Other duties as assigned     

Minimum Education/Experience:
Bachelors degree or higher, five years of proven administrative, operations, and employee relations experience. Excellent problem solving and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical and planning abilities. Flexible and able to be effective in high pressure, fast-paced environments. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects. Excellent written and verbal skills. Demonstrated leadership abilities. Ability to work closely with people from a wide variety of backgrounds. Understanding of the importance of confidentiality. Knowledge of various technical and/or information management systems. Commitment to working in a higher education environment and demonstrated ability to effectively engage a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.

Preferred Education/Experience
Masters degree and seven years of proven experience in a university setting that included administrative and human resources responsibilities. Demonstrated excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills. The ability to effectively communicate, understand and work with people from diverse backgrounds. Technology and information systems knowledge and experience. Design, construction, and facilities management experience.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications.
