The Anthropology Department at John Jay College of Criminal Justice of the City University of New York seeks a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in Social/Cultural Anthropology, commencing in August 2014. We seek to appoint a scholar who will demonstrate energy, expertise, research and publication at an early-career level, and who is able to translate that research interest into lively and engaging undergraduate courses that will be part of our new Anthropology major, scheduled to commence in the fall semester 2014. The successful candidate will have a PhD in Anthropology or a related field. Regional areas of interest are not specified, but it is expected that the focus of research and theoretical interests will complement those of other members of the department. Preference will be given to applicants with an interest in urban studies and a cosmopolitan commitment to the advocacy for justice that is the core mission of John Jay College. Demonstrated success at teaching, productive scholarship and the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution are also required.
