The University of Virginia is seeking a senior designer in the Office of University Communications. 

University Communications oversees strategic marketing and communications initiatives to enhance the reputation of the institution as a premier public research university and to ensure the highest level of brand cohesion in advancing institutional priorities.

The senior designer provides expertise in support of pan-University and other strategic communication initiatives needed to support and promote the institution's mission and goals. The senior designer will help develop creative concepts and will work as a member of a marketing team.  He/she will lead the design of many of the office's electronic and printed communications collateral, prepare collateral for going to press, and ensure that all materials are graphically developed within a strong institutional brand framework. This position will also manage creative vendors so as to ensure that designed pieces are developed within established budgets and by established deadlines.  

The position requires a trained and experienced designer with seven or more years of relevant experience in graphic design for print, electronic and mobile.  The ideal candidate will have well-developed aesthetic sensibilities; creativity; experience developing and maintaining identity guidelines; and a thorough knowledge of the printing process.  He/she must also have experience with graphic design software, including Quark Express, Adobe Indesign, Adobe Illustrator, PhotoShop, and Adobe Acrobat.
