VICE CHANCELLOR FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS AND PROVOST

HAMMOND, INDIANA

Purdue University Calumet invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost. The Vice Chancellor will assist the Chancellor in the ongoing transformation of the campus from a primarily commuter model to a vibrant undergraduate institution with quality graduate programs focusing on student success and academic excellence. This is an opportunity for a motivated academic administrator to join a leadership team in the midst of strategic change. The new Provost will help build something remarkable and make a significant contribution to an institution on an exciting trajectory.

An academically comprehensive regional university, and part of the internationally respected Purdue University system, Purdue Calumet is located in Hammond, Indiana, less than 25 miles southeast of downtown Chicago, near the shores of Lake Michigan. The University has budgeted revenues of approximately $100 million and offers many different educational options for baccalaureate and master's degree programs. The University draws a talented and diverse student body from Northwest Indiana and, increasingly, the southern suburbs of Chicago and beyond. Purdue University Calumet's total enrollment currently stands at 8,390 undergraduate students and 1,032 graduate students. The institution serves a wide array of students, many of them first generation college students, and a significant number from underrepresented groups. Approximately 31% of the total student body is of minority status, including 12% African-American and 15% Hispanic, which is the largest Hispanic percentage of all public universities in Indiana. Purdue University Calumet also has a growing international student population, numbered currently at approximately 680. Purdue Calumet was one of the first universities in the nation to require experiential learning for all undergraduate students, and over 1,000 students participate annually in undergraduate research.

The Vice Chancellor will help lead a campus focused on strategic change and will assist the Chancellor with the vision he has launched to continue building quality academic programs and learning experiences that will excite students and faculty engaged in the transformation of the university. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching and scholarship, an extensive track record of achievement in academic administration, and a talent for engaging in shared governance. The new Vice Chancellor must have experience in managing human and financial resources, using assessment for quality improvement, engaging in shared governance, and securing external funds.
