About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Planning and Innovation, the Director plays a key role in developing and administering programs and frequently represents Student Life on a variety of campus-wide committees. The Director is expected to identify new opportunities to engage students and to capitalize on opportunities to enhance the services provided. The Director will supervise the Associate Director of Community Engagement and collaborate across the Division of Student Life, Oakland campus, and global network.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of student services administration, including programs, processes and related technology. Ability to lead, engage and motivate employees and support a positive team culture. Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities. Knowledge and skills required for this position are normally obtained through a master's degree in higher education or related field, and at least 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in the field. Preference will be given to candidates who have direct experience in student activities and program management with a proven record of change management in this area.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

1) Administrative/Management Responsibilities - administers the department budget; responsible for developing long-term strategic plans including financial planning; communicates frequently with AVC Planning and Innovation; Identifies, communicates, and maintains a student centered customer service focus; Directs all personnel matters within student activities including recruitment and hiring of pro and student staff; Oversees RahRah app usage and training; Performs other duties as assigned; This position requires frequent nights and weekend responsibilities.

2) Program Operations Oversight - Required to set the strategic vision for this area in concert with the Associate Director and AVC; Develops year-long priorities and calendar of events and activities; Identifies opportunities to leverage technology to increase efficiency and customer services in all areas of Program Operations; Considers opportunities for virtual engagement with students who are enrolled at Northeastern across the globe; On the ground support and execution of multiple events throughout the year.

3) Student Engagement Oversight - Develops new policies and procedures that pertain to the program planning process; Directs the operations of the Programming Board in concert with the Associate Director and The Center; Responsible for the continued success of university-wide signature programs such as Homecoming, Fall Fest, SpringFest, Black and White Ball, etc.; Partners with Orientation and the Center on Welcome Weeks, student leadership programming, and the development of a robust student programming calendar.

4) Leadership - Supervise, train and evaluate an Associate Director; Lead, engage and motivate employees; Actively support a positive team culture; Provide an effective process for performance management and development that provides measurable goals, clear expectations and solid direction to each team member;
  • Provide frequent feedback, recognition and coaching to ensure high performance, professional growth and development; Address unsatisfactory employee performance including developing, delivering and monitoring performance improvement plans.
  • Facilitate the resolution of employee conflicts; Lead and guide employee/team to develop new skills, knowledge and abilities that will enhance their work and development; Plan, organize resources, assign and delegate activities and measure results to achieve organization's expectations; Manage change by providing the needed structure and transparent environment; Coach employee/team through changes that impact their day to day work; Assist employees in navigating business processes and resolving issues; Administer and ensure compliance with university policies and procedures; Lead the selection and onboarding process.

    The expected hiring range for this position is $82,725 to $105,475 based on the position's scope and responsibilities.
