Case Western Reserve University is seeking a controller to serve as the chief accounting officer for the university and all subsidiaries, overseeing the daily operations of accounting (e.g. revenues, expenses, endowments, research, property, cash flows, assets and liabilities), payroll, and accounts receivable functions. The position has wide latitude to consider appropriate actions as it relates to the accounting operations of the university. The controller is the key contact internally for external audits conducted and ensures compliance with all policies and state and federal regulations. The position provides leadership, direction and supervision to multiple functional areas. Duties include stewardship of the organization's financial records, preparation of university financial statements (GAAP and Management), presenting factual information, reports and interpretation of data to executive leadership, ensuring systems to maintain proper records and accounting controls, and preparing the facilities and administration and fringe benefits proposals for the benefit of the university.

The ideal candidate will have 15 years of related experience preferably in higher education and a Master's of Business Administration or related advanced degree. A Certified Public Accountant is required. The candidate will possess knowledge of generally accepted governmental accounting principles, pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations; operational characteristics, services, and activities of a large financial management and accounting program (strong general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, income tax and banking working knowledge); excellent negotiation skills (SEC/contractual); superior leadership and managerial abilities to lead and motive a team; demonstrated working set of controllership skills; ability to manage an audit; advanced financial planning skills to assess implications of capital, debt, credit, investment and accounting implications of strategic decision and direction; consistently high accuracy and timeliness; strong communication skills with a demonstrated ability to bring clarity to a complex and technical issue; and computer proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including spreadsheet package with knowledge of PeopleSoft Financials ERP system is highly desired.
