The Department Head will provide direction and leadership at the departmental level and maintain engagement in the broader fields associated with special and inclusive education and disability studies. S/he will evaluate, and foster development of, faculty and staff; lead recruitment; enhance research and creative activity among faculty; support efforts in the Department to implement a coherent vision and strategic plan; represent all dimensions of the Department to diverse audiences both internal and external to the University; administer the Department budget, facilities, schedule, and all other aspects of the Departments planning and operation; support the use of technology by faculty; work in collaboration with other academic, administrative, and student affairs personnel in program and facility management; support further development of collaborative relationships with regional, state, and national agencies and organizations involved in education and disability; secure external resources to enhance the Departments development; and teach one course per semester. The Department Head will provide visionary leadership to promote excellence in undergraduate and graduate programs.


Requirements include an earned Doctorate in Special Education, Disability Studies, or related field.Requirements include a record of effective teaching and scholarly activity suitable for a tenured Full Professor appointment; experience in PK-12 educational settings; proven record of successful administrative experience in higher education such as department head, program director or other leadership roles in academic programs; and excellent interpersonal skills. The successful candidate must have demonstrated a commitment to supporting excellence in Teacher Education and be able to lead and engage faculty in the Department in new initiatives and growth in strategic areas.
