English Faculty Positions


Dakota State University invites applications for two tenure-track positions: Assistant Professors of English and English Education/ Composition.


English position: duties will be composition teaching and advising within growing English for New Media and Professional & Technical Communication programs. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Composition and Rhetoric or English (ABD considered) and have experience in teaching composition and rhetoric. Applicants must demonstrate excellence in classroom instruction, teaching with technology, dedication to on-going professional development, and a firm commitment to scholarship and research. The successful candidate will have strong collaborative skills with colleagues. Applicants should possess knowledge of digital uses of media, literature, and be prepared to teach courses in composition and professional and technical writing. Preference given to applicants who have experience with publishing in new technologies and media. The ideal candidate will also have experience with using computers and relevant technologies and have experience with a writing program at the institutional level. Scholarly publication is a requirement for promotion and tenure.


English Education and Composition position: duties include teaching general education composition courses, teaching English Education methods courses, advising, and supervising student teachers. The successful candidate will have a teaching degree at some level. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in English Education or Composition and Rhetoric or a related field and have experience teaching composition at the undergraduate level and in the middle or high school classroom. ABD will be considered. Applicants must demonstrate excellence in classroom instruction, teaching with technology, dedication to on-going professional development, commitment to scholarship and research. The successful candidate will have strong collaborative skills with colleagues in the university and with regional school districts. Applicants should possess knowledge of methods of teaching English in middle and high school, including active learning strategies, using technology to enhance teaching and learning, and teaching to state and national curriculum standards. Preference given to applicants who have experience with or academic preparation for teaching grammar, linguistics, and content area reading methods. Scholarly publication is a requirement for promotion and tenure.
