Assistant/Associate Professor in Resilient Infrastructure

Position Summary: The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate professor in the area of resilient infrastructure. Resilience is broader than protection, and, in addition to enhancing survival through monitoring and strengthening the civil infrastructure; it addresses additional challenges of cascading effects and interdependencies of networks, response and recovery, multi-hazards, and sustainability. The department is seeking outstanding candidates with an understanding of the above challenges who have demonstrated research expertise in one or more of the following topical areas:

* Sensing and nondestructive assessment of infrastructure components and systems
* Innovative and eco-efficient materials
* Sustainable and multi-hazards designs and re-use of existing infrastructure assets
* Decision making, predictive science, and risk management toward interdependencies of infrastructure networks, impact of climate change, and multi-scale simulations.
* Understanding of social sciences toward response and recovery to enhance resiliency against extreme events.

Applicants should demonstrate an original and creative vision for research that is well-conceived, and is aligned with regional and national priorities and policies on critical infrastructure security and resilience; such as the Presidential Policy Directive of 2013. It should also include plan for engaging the industry and other stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be expected to: (1) develop an externally funded and internationally recognized research program; (2) supervise graduate students; (3) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in CEE; (4) develop and teach new graduate classes, especially in the area of resilient infrastructure; and (5) serve the Department, the Newark College of Engineering, NJIT, and engineering profession.

Qualifications: Required qualifications include Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline, demonstrated potential for excellence in research, scholarship and teaching, and the ability to obtain professional licensure.
