Position: The Department of Art atIndiana University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a tenure track position in Art Education at the Assistant Professor rank starting August 2014. The Department of Art is a NASAD accredited institution with an approximate enrollment of 250 undergraduates and 30 graduate students. Degree tracks offered at IUP include the BFA in Studio Art; BSEd in Art Education; BA in Art History and Studio Art; MA in Studio Art; MFA in Studio Art.
Required Qualifications: Successful candidates will hold a PhD, or EdD, or equivalent degree in Art Education (ABD may be considered, with completion date of Aug 2014), and have a minimum of three years P-12 teaching experience. Successful candidates will demonstrate knowledge of current trends in Art Education, with specific knowledge in elementary education, and an interest in progressive approaches to curriculum, community engagement, and arts advocacy. Candidates must communicate effectively and perform well during the interview(s) which may include a teaching demonstration. In accordance with terms of the collective bargaining agreement between the State System of Higher Education and the faculty union, APSCUF, the successful candidate may be assigned to perform work at off-campus sites and/or provide instruction through distance education.
Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have at least two years of university teaching experience, a strong studio background, and the ability to teach art appreciation courses. Specific areas of expertise or research might include but are not limited to the teaching of special populations, community-based education initiatives, or museum-based art education programming.
Responsibilities: Teach current courses in art education curriculum, including practicum and student teaching supervision, and have an active research agenda. Faculty members are expected to contribute innovatively to curriculum development and program expansion, and to participate in departmental and university-wide committees, service, and governance.
