Description

The Office of the Treasurer at The College of New Jersey is seeking a Controller who will be responsible for the College's financial planning and reporting, including investments and debt management, internal controls, general accounting and accounts payable. The successful candidate will be required to provide leadership for the PeopleSoft Financial Management System including coordination and implementation of new enhancements within the general ledger, accounts payable and reporting modules.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

*Overseeing the preparation of all audited financial statements, interpreting and implementing all generally accepted accounting standards that applicable to public colleges and universities.

*Managing day-to-date operations of finance and accounting functions for the College and Foundation, including investments and cash management, general accounting, accounts receivables and accounts payable.

*Assisting in the long-range financial planning for the College and preparation of multi-year pro-forma financial statements.

*Coordinating and developing monthly financial reporting package for management and quarterly financial statements for the Board of Trustees.

*Assisting the Treasurer and other senior leadership of the division with the implementation of the division's strategic plan.

*Supervising timely completion of internal audit recommendations relating to the financial reporting unit. Developing and implementing internal controls self-assessment protocols for the financial reporting unit. Assessing, re-engineering and streamlining job responsibilities and business processes to increase efficiencies and strengthen internal controls.

*Serving as senior manager/client to direct the configuration and financial operation of the College's PeopleSoft financial system, including strategic direction on system upgrades and campus-wide financial reporting.

*Leading and overseeing the annual year end close and audit of the College and its affiliated entities.

*Directing monthly and quarterly financial reporting to internal and external constituents. Supervising general accounting staff in their daily accounting responsibilities for the College and the Foundation. Assisting the Treasurer in completing special projects in support of major financial goals and objectives of the College.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

*Graduation from an accredited college with a bachelor's degree in Accounting and licensed Certified Public Accountant; Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration preferred but not required.

*Minimum of seven years of experience in the accounting field with experience in auditing and government accounting standards for public colleges and universities.

*Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, diverse environment and stay abreast of the latest trends and accounting standards for both public and private higher education institutions. Ability to prepare clear, concise and effective financial presentations for senior management, governance, and external constituents.

*Ability to develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures to enhance financial management and internal controls. Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and complete ad-hoc projects as assigned by manager. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

*Knowledge of strategic finance and experience with long-term financial planning, financial ratio analysis.

*Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and experience utilizing Oracle/PeopleSoft financial management system preferred.
