Coaching and Student Success Specialist

Description


Essential Job Duties:

1.Manage the Academic Probation Program

  • Coach approximately 20-30 students participating in Probation Advising each semester
  • Manage Success Coaching list and student notification
  • Develop and revise materials each semester for Success Coaches and students


2.Provide Academic Skills Coaching and Workshops

  • Provide one-on-one academic skills coaching meetings to students
  • Provide workshops on study/test taking skills and strategies, reading strategies, time management, test anxiety, mindfulness, etc.
  • Develop coaching materials on a wide range of academic support areas including time management, test anxiety, research - based learning strategies and study strategies


3.General Office Responsibilities

  • Provide supplemental advising, especially during registration periods
  • Assist with all Academic Success Center support activities such as meetings, new student orientation activities, reporting, data collection, and grant writing.
  • Serve as a back-up to other staff in Academic Success Center and assist as needed
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and contribute to the center's effective operation
  • Collaborate with a wide range of campus partners
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Complete and meet deadlines for required training and performance management cycle
  • Support, respect, and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view to build a strong and inclusive community.


4. Coordinate Individual Major Program (.12 FTE)

  • Explain Individual Major Program, policies and procedures to interested students; discuss students' options for fulfilling their academic goals
  • Support collaboration among the Majors and their Advisors, Library staff, the Registrar, and the Director
  • Support faculty during their student's senior year with information about expectations for student senior projects and the role of the faculty advisor
  • Provide advice and support for senior students as they complete the major, carry out senior projects, plan public presentations, and complete their web portfolios
  • Work with the program team to choose Ken Bonde Award recipients


Work Schedule

Term: Mid-August - mid June

Shift: 35 hours per week to be worked between Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., hours need to be consistent and approved by supervisor, with 40 hours to be worked in mid-August to prepare the Probation Advising process. Occasional evenings and weekends are required; travel up to 5% of the work schedule, which includes local (Twin Cities Metro area) and national travel; overnight trips average 1-2 trips per year

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree; maintain a valid driver's license and meet St. Olaf College driver authorization criteria with a satisfactory driving record

Experience: 2+ years of experience in student services, such as advising underrepresented students, mentoring, tutoring, Supplemental Instruction (SI), study skills development, and academic coaching, or related work experience

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Master's degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, Higher Ed Administration, or another relevant field

Experience: 5+ years of experience in coordinating student services, such as advising underrepresented students, mentoring, tutoring, SI, study skills development, and academic coaching at a liberal arts college; experience using TutorTrac software
