Faculty Position Announcement
The Ohio State University College of Engineering invites applications for two tenured or tenure-track faculty positions related to automotive systems and sustainable mobility.
Areas of expertise sought include: energy conversion and storage
and vehicle propulsion systems and their control; vehicle safety,
vehicle autonomy, vehicle-infrastructure integration, vehicle
systems and their control; advanced materials. Candidates will be
considered at the Associate/Full Professor rank, commensurate with
experience, and will be affiliated with one or more academic
departments in the college of engineering, as appropriate.

The position will be affiliated with the Center for Automotive Research, CAR, http://car.eng.ohio-state.edu, an interdisciplinary research center in the college of engineering. CAR is a designated U.S. Department of Energy Graduate Automotive Technology Education Center of Excellence, and home to two Ohio Third Frontier Wright Project Centers of Excellence. A staff of 40 supports the research and educational activities of over 20 faculty and 80 graduate students, as well as the OSU Motorsports program, an industry continuing education program, and numerous community and STEM outreach activities, resulting in $10M in annual expenditures. The Center is in a growth phase and is currently planning a new and expanded facility. In addition to having achieved a level of academic and scholarly excellence in his or her own field, the candidate is expected to play a leadership role in the development of new research programs and in the administration of the center, and to contribute to the growth of the Center, by building and leading faculty research teams, and by developing new facilities and capabilities.
The College of Engineering comprises more than 275 faculty members, offers 15 graduate degree programs in engineering and architecture, and is home to a number of federally-supported research centers, state-supported research and commercialization centers of excellence and industrial consortia. The College's annual research expenditures were $126M in 2011, and comprise a key component to the University's position as 10th among public universities nationally in research expenditures and 6th nationally in industrial research expenditures. The College continues to aggressively support multi-department, interdisciplinary initiatives in transportation- and energy-related research. Energy and transportation are among the top research and strategic hiring priorities in the College.
Automotive industry or national laboratory R&D experience is desirable. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in mechanical, electrical, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related discipline. The candidate is expected to build strong collaborations with faculty across the college of engineering, to actively participate in multidisciplinary teaching and research activities, and to work closely with the Center leadership in planning and executing strategic initiatives.
