In-Home Services MSW Student Supervisor (Temporary Employee Pool)

Primary Purpose and Essential Functions:
Conduct home visits with adults at risk of self-neglect in San Joaquin County in partnership with MSW students and in consultation with Pharmacists and Pharmacy students. Intensive follow-up visits are likely to involve the use of evidence-based practices to support clients who struggle with hoarding - specialized training will be provided. Provide supervision to MSW students as they learn through active participation in client visits.

Clients are identified by referral from San Joaquin County's Adult Protective Services division. This position is part-time, approximately five to ten (5-10) hours per week. Hours are flexible and subject to the availability of clients and MSW student team members. The position reports to faculty members in the UOP Social Work department who will provide supervision and logistical support.

Essential Duties:
  • Precept MSW students.
  • Conduct biopsychosocial and home safety assessments.
  • Develop, monitor, and evaluate care plan.
  • Facilitate advanced care planning and document completion.
  • Assess needs and provide community referrals.
  • Document progress for internal use and provide reports to APS.
  • Coordinate with APS and Pharmacy providers.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • MSW from a CSWE accredited program.
  • Ability to travel to client’s homes.
  • One (1) year of experience with care management.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with older adults and/or adults with disabilities.
  • Experience using evidence-based practices such as MI, MBSR, CBT and DBT.
  • Experience working with individuals who hoard.
  • Capacity to multitask including to provide supervision to MSW students while carrying out job responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Schedule is dependent on the course and department needs.

Valid driver’s license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University’s fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.
