Summary:
The College of Lake County is seeking to hire a PT Flex, Laboratory Specialist in Health Information Technology (HIT). The Laboratory Specialist, under the direction of the Associate Dean maintains current knowledge of HIT curriculum and health information practice; supervises and assist students in the health information laboratory; assists in correcting completed laboratory projects and assignments using the keys provided; maintains adequate supplies and prepares materials for the health information lab, including computer applications; develops computer databases; Acts as a liaison between it and HIT; Works independently; and maintains equipment.
This position is supported by the Pipeline for the Advancement of the Healthcare (PATH) Workforce Grant through the Illinois Community College Board.

Required Qualifications:
- Associates degree in health information technology and two (2) years of tested experience in the health information management field.
- Current certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
- Current knowledge and proficiency in health information procedures.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in software for: word processing spreadsheets, databases, and health information specific software.
- Proven ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday days and may include one-week night.Schedule may vary semester to semester based on course schedules and College needs.May include occasional Saturdays.

Summary of Essential Functions:
Lab Duties:
Maintains the HIT laboratory and equipment, including computer applications; acts as a liaison between IT and HIT; develops computer databases; adequate lab supplies, atmosphere, and appearance; prepares materials for the health information lab and events; maintain the HIT job board list and HIT electronic folder.
Faculty Assistance:
Assists in loading faculty assessments into the LMS; assists in correcting completed laboratory projects and assignments using the keys provided; available to teach HIT course(s) relative to experience and background.
Student Interactions:
Supervises and assist the students in the health information laboratory; support students in the learning management system and lab HIT/software applications; acts as a health information technology “tutor” for HIT courses.
