Assistant Professor Of Theatre

The Department of Theatre, Dance & Arts Administration in the College of Performing and Visual Arts at Southern Utah University invites applications with expertise in acting for a tenure track position in theatre at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The successful candidate will teach and mentor students within both a BFA and BA/BS degree program. The candidate will offer courses in acting and in their area of focus.
  • Other duties include student career and academic advising, student recruitment, service to departmental, college, and university committees, opportunities to teach in additional areas, and other duties as assigned.
  • Excellence in teaching, creative/scholarly activity, and service is expected.
  • An MFA or PhD is required for this position.
  • Other qualifications include prior college teaching experience, a record of artistic/scholarly achievement, and professional experience in acting or directing.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  1. Teaching courses in acting and related disciplines
  2. Artistic/scholarly achievement.
  3. Student advisement and career planning.
  4. Participation in the collaborative process.
  5. University/College/Department service.
  6. Recruitment and retention.
  7. Opportunities to direct departmental productions.
  8. Other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. MFA or PhD in Acting, Directing, or a closely related field.
  2. Professional experience in acting or directing.
  3. A specialization in any of the following: directing, stage combat, movement, voice, musical theatre, or a specific acting technique.
  4. College teaching experience.
  5. Prior record of artistic and/or scholarly achievement.

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Experience in directing on the regional and/or university level.
  2. Strong connections to the industry.
