Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking applicants for a Program Coordinator position for the WWCC Correction Education program located at the Coyote Ridge Corrections Center (CRCC) in Connell, Washington.

This position is filled to fulfill a contract awarded to Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) by the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (WSBCTC) to operate a correctional education program at CRCC in accordance with an interagency agreement with the Department of Corrections. Walla Walla Community College and its employees working in a correctional education program are expected to follow all Department of Corrections (DOC) Policies, IT and other Security requirements, follow DOC Operational Memorandums, and comply with the Superintendent's directions.

General Responsibilities:

In line with the mission and goals of Walla Walla Community College, this position is responsible for encouraging students to continue life-long learning in preparing students for the 21st century work. The Program Coordinator will ensure that student records are updated, registrations are processed on time, and attendance is accurately recorded. The Program Coordinator will work with students, program staff, and various stakeholders in the interest of the corrections education program.

Essential Functions:

General Office Duties

  • Maintain and prioritize waitlist for AA programs
  • Assign students to classes
  • Enter attendance in OMNI to maintain records
  • Keep spreadsheet of student's absences
  • Degree Audits
  • Work with computerized DOC Offender Management Network Information (OMNI) to check information.
  • Build classes in program to fill seats for classes offered at the CRCC Campus.
  • Update Classroom Rosters - weekly
  • Distribute supplies as needed
  • Answer phones
  • Create special callouts for various reasons
  • Filing via the scan system
  • Ensure cancelled classes aren't running and staff notified
  • Chrono information in OMNI
  • Special projects as assigned by Dean
  • Open Doors - monthly report and Credit Deficiency form
  • PJHS recommendations
  • NFSD registrations
  • Transcripts - Ged and High School
  • Finding TAs as needed
  • Study Lab signup
  • RPM
  • Update GED spreadsheet


  • Maintain full capacity classes

  • Assign students to classes - attempt to keep the totals at max capacity.
  • Document student transfers and release date
  • Resolve issues as they arrive
  • Maintain quarterly admission and registration records
  • Check Transfer sheet daily to track students that need to be un-assigned from classes.
  • Keep referrals updated and waitlist accurate
  • Complete in OMNI when the student has completed a class. Notify counselors of completions.
  • Print and send attendance sheets
  • Run study labs

  • Book and Calculator inventory system

  • Enter new books into computer system
  • Place scanning codes on each book
  • Checked in, out, and returned
  • Make sure books/calculators are returned in timely manner
  • Cross train in laptop processes


  • Instructor/Counselor Support

  • Gather and assign books via inventory book system
  • Manage/organize the bookroom, create new student registration packets weekly and new quarterly packets for instructors
  • Answer kiosk and emails from counselors
  • Request and check on information for instructors
  • Provide back-up support for completing student evaluations of instructors

  • Orientation/Program Reviews

  • Prepare all paperwork and intake forms for each inmate that is scheduled for Orientation.
  • Process after orientation
  • After program reviews change student assignments as requested by CPM
  • Advising

  • Required Qualifications:

  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • Two years of experience at an advanced level OR equivalent education/experience.

  • Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

  • AA degree in related field
  • Bilingual - English/Spanish
  • Corrections work experience


  • Conditions/Terms of Employment

    Successful completion of a contractor training followed by a three-week DOC CORE training.

    This classified position is in a bargaining unit for which WPEA Higher Ed is the exclusive representative.

    This position is located inside the Coyote Ridge Corrections Center, an adult male prison and interacts daily with students (incarcerated individuals), instructors, counselors, DOC, and WWCC staff. Duties require the use of standard office furniture and equipment (e.g., desk, filing cabinet, computer, printer, telephone, copy machine, etc.). Use and wear of WSP provided radio. Standard business hours are 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday from 7:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a half-hour lunch break. Incumbent may need to occasionally flex the work schedule to meet business needs, including possible infrequent evening and weekend hours. Some travel may be required, and is typically local or regional, to attend training.

    The college has an excellent benefit program including medical, dental, life and long-term disability insurance; paid sick leave; paid vacation leave; and retirement plan. All full-time employees will automatically have 3% of taxable income deferred into the State of Washington Deferred Compensation Program (DCP) unless declined at time of hire. WWCC requires all employees to participate in direct deposit for payment of salary. The College is a tobacco-free campus.

    Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of lawful authorization to work in the United States within three (3) days of employment and official college transcripts. WWCC participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. All Walla Walla Community College staff members employed at one of the Correction Education facilities must be cleared by an FBI background check before being hired into such positions and successfully complete a 3-week corrections training program. Information from the background check may not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.

    Department of Correction positions are grant funded and funding is not guaranteed. Upon loss of grant funding, the position will end. WWCC does not absorb the cost to fund DOC grant positions.
