Assistant Professor - Mechanical Engineering

Description

The Department of Mechanical Engineering inside the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering at Clemson University invites applicants for a tenure-track/tenured faculty position of Assistant or Associate Professor to begin August 2024.

The Department has a particular interest in applicants in the areas of mechanics and materials, with an emphasis on manufacturing. This position is open to both computational and experimental research interests, including, but not limited to, continuum plasticity, phase field modeling, multiscale microstructure-property relations, nano-material characterization, and/or metallic coatings. The Department also focuses on interdisciplinary work to address society's grand challenges and innovate through a balance of fundamental and translational research. Collaboration with entities within and outside engineering and science is highly encouraged. Applicants with exceptional qualifications will also be considered for appointments at the Full Professor rank. Candidates must possess a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering or another closely related field with the potential to develop an internationally recognized, interdisciplinary research program. Faculty are expected to actively contribute to the Department's core graduate and undergraduate teaching missions. Appointment to this position requires the receipt of the Ph.D. degree prior to the start date of appointment.

The Department has over 35 tenured/tenure track faculty and full-time and part-time lecturers actively involved in research, teaching, and service endeavors. The Department occupies a modern research and education facility on the main Clemson, SC campus and has an enrollment of over 900 undergraduate and 200 graduate students. Clemson University is a public land-grant institution ranked in the top 25 public institutions in America, according to recent Wall Street Journal/College Pulse rankings and is classified as a Tier 1 Research Institution by the Carnegie Foundation. The Clemson campus is located between Atlanta, GA and Charlotte, NC, near Greenville, SC, along the I-85 corridor in the beautiful upstate of South Carolina. Clemson is serviced by the Greenville-Spartanburg (GSP), Atlanta, and Charlotte airports and by Amtrak. The Department also has a graduate education center in Charleston, SC and has ties to the Dominion Energy Innovation Center, which boasts the world's most advanced wind-turbine drivetrain testing facility.

Qualifications
