St. Edwards University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in Graphic Design to begin Fall 2014. The position on the faculty of the School of Humanities will be filled at the assistant professor level with salary depending on qualifications and experience. Teaching responsibility will be in the undergraduate Graphic Design Bachelor of Arts (BA) program. The successful candidate will contribute to and support diversity at St. Edwards University. This position is posted as a nine-month contract.
About Graphic Design at St. Edwards University
Graphic Design functions as an independent area in the cross-disciplinary Visual Studies department. As a small group of progressive design faculty, we have developed a curriculum that traverses a range of designed systems from books to apps to communities. Our highly engaged students run Command G, a group which plans studio tours, hands-on workshops and events throughout the year. In addition, our technology support staff keep our labs up-to-date and manage student lab assistants. While concerned primarily with the design discipline, we work within a liberal arts context to foster lifelong learning through creative and critical thinking.
Teach four courses per semester, two semesters per year.
Collaborate in the ongoing assessment and development of curriculum.
Serve as an academic advisor and mentor to students.
Participate in departmental, school, and university activities.
Interact with the local community to develop service opportunities for students.
Model professional development and creative scholarship in area of specialization.
Fulfill other required faculty responsibilities as outlined in the Faculty Manual.
MFA in Design or equivalent terminal degree in related discipline required.
Prior teaching and course design experience required.
Strong evidence of excellence in design, including a mastery of design principles, processes, technical skills, and emergent practices.
Ability to incorporate design theory and criticism, methodology, research, and history into studio classes.
Design pedagogy consistent with a liberal arts emphasis of the lifelong learner and St. Edwards Mission Statement.
Curriculum development and assessment skills preferred.
Excellent written and spoken English communication skills required.
Excellent interpersonal skills required.
Successful completion of an employment and/or criminal history background check required.
