Department Summary

The School of Architecture and Environment (SAE) includes three departments and one program offering accredited professional (leading to licensure or certification) and post-professional education for architects, interior architects, landscape architects, and Historic Preservation through 12-degree programs and post-professional research-based degrees: Bachelor of Architecture, Masters of Arch. Track I & II, Ph.D. Sustainability, Bachelor of Interior Architecture, Masters of Arch. Track I & II, Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, Masters of Landscape Architecture, Ph.D. Landscape Architecture, Minor in Historic Preservation, and Master of Science in Historic Preservation. Many of these professional programs are accredited. The School has approximately 50 permanent faculty, approximately 700 students, and a shared office staff of 6, not including student employees.

Position Summary

The School of Architecture and Environment (SAE) seeks a detail-oriented, adaptable, organized, and communicative individual to provide high-level business coordination for our academic and development support portfolios.

The Business Operations Assistant provides direct administrative and operational support to the School of Architecture and Environment (SAE). This position will require the ability to work independently, demonstrate sound judgment, and exercise creative problem-solving skills while providing high-level administrative and business coordination to multiple areas in the School. This will include supporting scheduling, travel, event support, and financial operations for four units. They will interact regularly with external constituents, administrative colleagues, faculty, and students. The Business Operations Assistant will respond to routine and non-routine situations, coordinating the execution of the priorities of the school and interpreting policy and procedure to support the business operations.

Work at this level requires comprehensive knowledge of programs and operations, and the ability to interpret and explain laws, rules, policies, and procedures. The Business Operations Assistant researches and interprets information and responds to inquiries providing advice and direction. The position is also responsible for negotiating with department heads and other course schedulers to resolve problems and reach settlements.

This position requires the ability to complete projects with guidance and input from stakeholders within SAE, and will develop in-depth knowledge of the School of Architecture and Environment's program requirements. This position reports to the School of Architecture and Environment Business Operations Manager and works in collaboration with the School Director, Department and Program Heads, and SAE staff.

Minimum Requirements

  • Three years of office experience which included two years at full performance level and experience generating documents; and
  • Lead work responsibility or coordination of office procedures.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in higher education or related environment.
  • Experience with course scheduling.
  • Experience with event planning.
  • 1+ years of experience with A/P and A/R.
  • Experience providing customer service in a professional environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Proficiency with software programs such as SIS/FIS platforms, TEAMS, Zoom, or Qualtrics.
  • Experience with BANNER, Concur, and/or similar financial information systems.
