Dean, School of Music

Baylor University seeks a visionary leader to guide its distinguished School of Music.

The School's outstanding reputation, its contributions to the world of music, and its role in supporting Baylor's Christian values and pursuit of excellence make it an essential asset of the University. The Baylor University School of Music provides transformational experiences that prepare students for careers in music. The next Dean will find a faculty poised and ready for remarkable achievements and expectant of visionary leadership that can raise the profile of the school and capitalize on the wealth of faculty expertise and a highly talented student body.

As chief executive of the School, the Dean is its intellectual and artistic leader and reports directly to the Provost. With responsibility for the school's academic and performance programs and its faculty, staff, students, and facilities, and with broadly delegated authority from the Provost, the Dean of the School of Music will advance the mission and expand the resources of the School. The Dean will articulate a shared vision that defines the standard of excellence, the directions of growth for the School, and the new and multi-disciplinary connections that are possible across the University.

School of Music students at Baylor thrive in a mission-driven environment characterized by a nurturing resident faculty, an unwavering pursuit of musical excellence, a global perspective, and a dedication to service. They investigate the rich musical and cultural heritage of the past, develop superior musical skills and knowledge in the present, and explore and create new modes of musical expression for the future.

Baylor's next Dean of the School of Music will be a forward-looking leader who will build upon Baylor's reputation for excellence, articulate a clear vision for the education of musicians in the 21st century, engage effectively with both internal and external constituencies, build resources through fundraising, and empower faculty and staff. The new Dean will lead the School during a time of great potential. He or she will have an unparalleled opportunity to make a personal mark on the future of the School.
